Walk this routeAn excellent route that mostly follows the West Highland Way but with an alternative descent into Fort William that avoids the Glen Nevis road....

The route uses the A82 which has a shared cycle/walkway until just outside Glencoe Village, a slight turn right will take you onto the old road into the village away from the busy traffic. The current Slow ways route uses the forest trails over Glencoe Lochan which are narrow and very popular with walkers especially with dogs and leads....

I did the whole of this route in 2 different trips - the first time as part of a West Highland Way walk (when it rained A LOT), and the next trip to finish the last part of it, which goes around Cow Hill. If you're doing the West Highland Way and have the legs in you, I'd definitely opt for this route into Fort William to the end....

Following the West Highland Way (it is the best route between the two nodes), the path is well signposted and well maintained so all you have to do is enjoy the scenery - and so much scenery there is! I started from Bridge of Orchy, where there is a hotel for any refreshments and facilities if required, or if you just wanted to sit on one of the nearby benches by the river and enjoy views of the pretty, stone bridge above the rushing river. We took in the picturesque views of the Glencoe mountains, taking a rest stop at the public toilets available, and then we followed a path along the road for a bit before turning north and heading up the Devil's Staircase. Whether or not you're doing the West Highland Way, this is absolutely a treat of a route, giving you everything from lowland walking to climbing a small summit with sweeping views....

A stunning route following (mostly) the West Highland Way with good footpaths throughout and views of some of Scotland's greatest munros. If you're coming north, the climb out of Kinlochleven is brutal, but the few miles following the river are, on a good day, utterly picturesque. There's no services along the route, so bring plenty of water....

I'm sure some day walkers will do this in a day but if you're carrying packs, this is a two-day chap with free camping at Kingshouse Hotel where the route crosses the A82. North of this, the route takes you past Glencoe and up the Devil's Staircase. South, you track old droving routes across Rannoch Moor, an utterly wild and unforgiving place, but gorgeous nonetheless....
