The canal walking was flat and easy to navigate, but a slog against the strong winds we were walking in! I 100% recommend this route... and plan to swim in Loch Lochy on it next time!...

Achnacarry is very small, but if you time it right, the Clan Cameron museum has coffee, snacks and an interest exhibition on both the Cameron's and Commandos....

Walk this routeAn excellent route that mostly follows the West Highland Way but with an alternative descent into Fort William that avoids the Glen Nevis road....

I did the whole of this route in 2 different trips - the first time as part of a West Highland Way walk (when it rained A LOT), and the next trip to finish the last part of it, which goes around Cow Hill. If you're doing the West Highland Way and have the legs in you, I'd definitely opt for this route into Fort William to the end....

After this you are off onto some lovely quiet forest tracks, followed by a separated cycle/walking path into Fort William....

I did most of the route up to where you turn onto the private road to Achnacarry, so this review is up to that point....

A superb walk mainly along rivers, lochs and the Caledonian Canal and mainly following the Great Glen Way. A more scenic route but about a mile longer is to follow the Great Glen Way path along the coast overlooking Lock Eil (Photo 2). After Gairlochy, there`s a short lane stretch on the other side of the canal, then the path goes down to Loch Lochy and follows the shoreline fairly closely through woodland, with some great views across the loch and back to Ben Nevis (Photos 6 and 7). Photo 6 - Loch Lochy and Ben Nevis...

A stunning route following (mostly) the West Highland Way with good footpaths throughout and views of some of Scotland's greatest munros. If you're coming north, the climb out of Kinlochleven is brutal, but the few miles following the river are, on a good day, utterly picturesque. There's no services along the route, so bring plenty of water....
