Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

The way starts in Ballachulish village with all the usual facilities plus some very good shops - Coop, Patisserie, Fish & Chips and Pizza. There are B&B’s, Guesthouses & Hotels. The route uses the A82 which has a shared cycle/walkway until just outside Glencoe Village, a slight turn right will take you onto the old road into the village away from the busy traffic. At the turn to Glencoe , if cycling it is better to use the B863 to Kinlochleven. To keep on the original route take the side road through the village.
The current Slow ways route uses the forest trails over Glencoe Lochan which are narrow and very popular with walkers especially with dogs and leads. The forest route joins the B863 about one third of the way along so you end at the same place.
The road is usually not too busy but there are no footpaths.
Kinlochleven has Shops, Pubs, B&Bs & Toilets.
The West Highland Way passes through the village and just to the north of Kinlochleven is the half mile trail to Grey Mare’s Tail Waterfall. It is an impressive waterfall with a accompanied roped climb if you need the adrenaline rush.
A very important general note about transport links to and from Ballachulish, Glencoe, Corran, Kinlochleven and other Highland villages without rail links. The current (August 2023) coach services will only take accredited working dogs or dogs in full IATA crates - just what you want to walk miles with!!!!.
