Review of Slow Ways route Brityn one (Bridge of Orchy to Tyndrum 1)
I walked this route in reverse (i.e. from Tyndrum to Bridge of Orchy) one afternoon in late September 2025. The route is simple and relatively undemanding, following as it does a section of the West Highland Way. There are signposts along the way and the walking surfaces are generally good or very good. The views, it almost goes without saying, are wonderful.

We used the 914/915 Citylink bus service to get from Bridge of Orchy to Tyndrum, then walked back, after some lunch in Tyndrum. This was an excellent bus/coach service but it should be booked online/by app beforehand, as the driver may not stop if there are already bookings a bit further on.
I loved this walk. I’ve done this section by car and by train before, so it was great to do it at a snail’s pace, and especially in nice weather. We weren’t really disturbed by traffic noise as we were generally far enough away from the road.
The route went along the base of two mountains, the second one being a munro. Both were covered with many little streams running down their sides. Between them was a river which the railway line crossed on two small viaducts on a loop well away from the West Highland Way track. The northern half of the route overlooked a pebbly river, and it was all very scenic. There were a few cows at one point, but they must see so many walkers that they were completely uninterested.
We crossed under the station before heading to the Bridge of Orchy Hotel. We had dinner there, but our overnight stay was at the station itself, which is a delightful little hostel, with an extremely well stocked pantry, which provided us with very good breakfasts and lunches for the next day. We were also lucky to have a beautiful clear night, and we did a spot of stargazing, admiring the Milky Way.

Lovely short section of the west highland way, bordered by the Green Welly on one side, and a hotel where you can get breakfast on other. Nice flat route through fields in between.

I walked this route with my friend and collague Ingrina as part of a wild camping trip! It's a spectacular route that mostly follows the West Highland way. Beautiful scenery and straightforward route. Highly recommend!.

Pleasant walk on mostly good path. I walked this during the autumn, so the colours were really gorgeous and made the scenery come alive much more. Tyndrum has a few stores and restaurants, as well as good accommodation. At Bridge of Orchy there is a popular hotel by the river. While we didn't go in, it looks like a lovely spot for a start or end to a walk.

Most of the time through this route you're tracking both the A82 and the line of the railway, swapping places occasionally thanks to little sheep tunnels or bridges. Not the wildest route in the area, by any means, but lovely.
It's fairly flat, with good views and plenty of excellent spots to stop in some heather and share your sandwich with a cloud of midges.
Tyndrum has a dozen roadside restaurants or little shops catering mostly to caravan drivers, so it's a bit of a zoo. But the Real Food Cafe is absolutely brilliant and definitely worth a visit.
