The southern half of the route involved quite a few field crossings. After Greenbank Farm and towards Stansfield Tower they were a bit boggy and were probably quite bad a few weeks earlier. I would have given this route five stars but for the lumpy, potentially boggy field crossings....

Walk this routeI think at the Barrowford end it would be very difficult to find the initial footpath, as the plotting is too vague and the path entrance is somewhat hidden through a garden. Please use BarBar Two which is more accurate....

The canal here wiggled quite a lot to follow the contours, but the biggest wiggles were avoided by following the Pennine Way for the last third of the route. The Lock Stop Café at Greenberfield was closed while the owners try to findsomeone to run it in the future (and has been closed for a year), but that is only 20% into the route from Barnoldswick....

This is a lovely route comprised of the Leeds-Liverpool canal towpath and the Pennine Way. After a short walk out of the town, the canal is reached and first half of the walk follows the towpath....

(There are strong campaigns to reinstate this potentially useful rail connection.) A surfaced lane crossed a cattle grid (with gate option), then the route branched off across fields....

However, this route turns in front of the factory and enters a wooded footpath (muddy when I walked it) around the perimeter of the factory grounds, and over a bridlepath bridge to access the towpath....

There are two bits that require a bit of physical dexterity, a high ‘stile’ over a wall (pictured) and a slightly rocky/stoney set of steps....
