The route continued with a section of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, including a visit to the southwestern portal of Foulridge Tunnel. The northeastern portal of Foulridge Tunnel is only a short walk from the end point of this route....

The southern half of the route involved quite a few field crossings. After Greenbank Farm and towards Stansfield Tower they were a bit boggy and were probably quite bad a few weeks earlier. I would have given this route five stars but for the lumpy, potentially boggy field crossings....

Walk this routeI think at the Barrowford end it would be very difficult to find the initial footpath, as the plotting is too vague and the path entrance is somewhat hidden through a garden. Please use BarBar Two which is more accurate....

If you do follow the path from the north side of A6068 towards Barrowford, you'll eventually reach a series of stepping stones....

The river crossing at Barrowford is inaccurately plotted and impossible. The actual footbridge crossing is more than 100 metres further east....

I didn't dare attempt this route because I really didn't fancy crossing Vivary Way/A6068 immediately after the exit roundabout at the end of the M65 which I think would be dangerous....

The towpath was nice and straightforward, and the route through the shops at Nelson was pleasant enough, although a little run-down in parts....

A quiet industrial road leads to footpaths and a traffic-light-controlled road crossing and into Greenfield Road Nature Reserve, where the wild garlic was getting ready to flower....
