Help connect Worsthorne
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Worsthorne’s Slow Ways.

This walk is accessible by bus at both ends or can be extended to make a longer walk between Burnley and Hebden Bridge which both have good rail connections....

Walk this routeThis is an excellent route largely following the Pennine Bridleways....

The section from Rowley Farm to Worsthorne is along farm tracks and two quite rough fields - a better alternative may be to stay on the Burnley Way to Wood Hey Farm but would need to be tested Note that if starting from Burnley Manchester Road station the best option is to simply follow the impressive section of the Leeds and Liverpool canal and join this route where it crosses the river Brun....
RGW
At that point it goes into fields slightly rising until reaching another B road, crossing this with new housing on the right hand side of the path....

Leaving Burnley Central (previously Burnley Bank Top) the path winds through Brun Valley Park with the River Brun adjacent (not surprisingly). A pleasing and easy walk with evidence of industrial heritage - a weir, for example. After 1.5 miles the route turns right towards Rowley Lake through several fields and attractive views towards Brierfield and Pendle Hill are in evidence....
William Huxham
There was a bench tucked in next to Salterford Bridge, and soon after this we found the short footpath through the woods and into the fields. There were stiles either side of the road crossing, and then new housing had changed the nature of the next footpath, but it was still quite possible....

From Rowley Farm the route crossed farmland with several gates, kissing gates and stiles, and a few docile cows....

The parts through the fields are great but there are some stiles that are in poor condition near Rowley Farm. The walk a long the river is very relaxed and was well used....

The Pack Horse Inn was open and serving food so that is great if you are using it as a midpoint in your walk if you are combining it with another Slow Way as I did....

Sneil68 added Worbla one, a new walk from Worsthorne to Blackshaw Head
Walk this routeThere are some very boggy bits across Black Moor, north of the Gorple Upper Reservoir, that could be avoided by continuing on the PBW below the Gorple Stones for a further c.0.5km, and then taking the permissive path south that leads down to the dam past the rocky outcrops (great views!) on Shuttleworth Moor. The main problem with this route however (and hence only 3, not 4 stars) is that the Packhorse Inn is now closed so does not offer a proper Slow Ways destination/network node as such, so an alternative route and destination is suggested to Blackshaw Head (see photos 5 to 9 below). It's only really worth continuing to the Packhorse Inn (seen in photo 4 below, taken from Gorple Lower Reservoir dam) if you intend to continue on from there towards Haworth or Hardcastle Crags....

From Netherwood Bridge it was an easy to follow, accessible and (mostly) off road route along the Brontë Way then Brun Greenway (an old railway line) to the station....
