There was a bus up to Blackshaw Head, so I reckoned it would be worth following the Slow Way back down to Hebden Bridge. After that, a cobbled road descends so steeply to Hebden Bridge that it's equipped with a handrail!...

It's just 150 m to the East of the point where Fold Lane is nearing Edge Lane, when travelling from Blackshaw Head....

A steep climb out of Hebden Bridge to Heptonstall is by far the most difficult section if travelling in this direction, with The Buttress being difficult going in the opposite direction as well....

We descended to pass near to Gorple Lower Reservoir and crossed a steep-sided little river valley, briefly joining the Pennine Way, where a stone path brought us back out to cross a field to the Pack Horse Inn, which is, once again closed I’m afraid....

It was followed by a cobbled and stepped footpath to Heptonstall Road and into Heptonstall, which has good facilities and lots of history, and continues the cobbled theme. From here the route approximately followed the Calderdale Way, although there was a diversion off it near Heptonstall along a fairly narrow, but level, path instead of going down and up slightly along a quiet road at Lumb Bank....

Note that the New Delight Inn and Jack Bridge makes a better end point at the Blackshaw Head end of this route, particularly if your walk continues to Heptonstall or Hebden Bridge....

Walk this routeThis walk is accessible by bus at both ends or can be extended to make a longer walk between Burnley and Hebden Bridge which both have good rail connections....

Very straightforward route following a bridle-path / track down the valley into Hebden Bridge. Made a nice gentle finish to a longer walk which started in Burnley. Note that the New Delight Inn at Jack Bridge would make a better node than the current one at Blackshaw Head and can easily be incorporated into this route....

Walk this routeRecommend combining with "Blaheb One" to make a scenic high-level route between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge with great views of Calderdale and the surrounding hills....

There are good pubs in Heptonstall, and a minor variation to the route will take in the New Delight Inn which is also recommended. Combined with "Todbla one" this makes a good walk from Todmorden to Hebden Bridge which is a good day out by train from Manchester....
