19 Sep 2023 (edited 01 Jan 2024) Summer

Leaving Burnley Central (previously Burnley Bank Top) the path winds through Brun Valley Park with the River Brun adjacent (not surprisingly). A pleasing and easy walk with evidence of industrial heritage - a weir, for example. After 1.5 miles the route turns right towards Rowley Lake through several fields and attractive views towards Brierfield and Pendle Hill are in evidence. The walk finally takes you along the B road for about a quarter of a mile into the centre of the village of Worsthorne; a lovely village with a well stocked shop and pub (not open but too early anyway).

14 Sep 2023 Summer

From Burnley Central station, the route followed tarmacked tracks through Thursby Gardens, Thompson Park, under Sandholme Aqueduct, and then alongside the River Brun. This was all very pleasant and easy.
From Rowley Farm the route crossed farmland with several gates, kissing gates and stiles, and a few docile cows. There were nice views across to Pendle Hill. At Heckenhurst the route was easy enough to follow in this direction, the footpath continues more or less straight and doesn’t divert through the farm buildings as shown on the OS Map.
The field paths from there into Worsthorne were not very well worn and it would be easy to miss the fact that the exit onto the road is between the last couple of houses.
The toilets on the road into Worsthorne were open, but not very well maintained, and village had a pub, a shop, some benches and a bus stop.
Overall, mostly a very nice route.

I walked from Worsthorne to Burnley.
Lovely straight forward route that is quite direct. The parts through the fields are great but there are some stiles that are in poor condition near Rowley Farm.
The walk a long the river is very relaxed and was well used.

28 Apr 2021 Spring

Walked this today from Worsthorne to Burnley.
Instead of the road, I took the public footpath via Old Hall Farm out of Worsthorne. This is a good off road alternative, but has been diverted slightly via a well signed Permissive Path around the boundary of Old Hall Farm. The cows and sheep in the field near the road seemed friendly!
On reaching Heckenhurst, there was no obvious route through to the path heading west, so I took the FP north down to the FB over Swinden Water and turned left onto the Burnley and Brontë Ways. From here the route was well used and easy to follow to re-join the Slow Way further west. I can't comment on the original route via Rowley Farm, but this was an enjoyable alternative following the stream through the woods.
From Netherwood Bridge it was an easy to follow, accessible and (mostly) off road route along the Brontë Way then Brun Greenway (an old railway line) to the station.
