Help connect Trawden

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Trawden’s Slow Ways.

Rest of the route is straightforward and ends down a farm track/road before turning right onto the busy A56 and ending at the Hare & Hounds pub....

The route passes within 50m of my house and I have walked this route many times. You walk along part of the East Colne Way which is one of the most popular walks in Pendle! Good mixture of public footpaths and pavements....

Walk this route

It starts by the community centre and shop in Trawden, which also has a café, passes a pub then near to a café in Ball Grove Park, 30% of the way....

Walk this route

After a short climb (17%) on a quiet road out of Trawden the route enters the first of many mostly sheep-grazed fields (with occasional cows). There is a gradual climb through more fields to reach Knarrs Farm, which was rather muddy, and had a deceptively high step up the stile to get back into the fields. There is a road descent of 17% to reach an easily missed squeeze stile into fields to reach Ickhornshaw Beck, which the route follows for some time....

Just past Thick Bank there's a very short stretch of road walking and then a stile hidden in the wall. Cross the road and the path is a little unclear around the farm buildings of Earl Hall. Out of the park, there is a long climb up the quiet road, turning right to follow the metalled road through the houses. I didn't follow the EarTra route into Trawden, instead I took the footpath heading almost due south just after New Laithe Farm into Trawden....

Walk this route

As a walk from A to B this is a nice enough walk, quite a few short sections of road or track as well as fields. Setting off from Trawden, you climb up the road to the bridleway, which provides a nice level walk into Winewall....
