Help connect Whitby
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Whitby’s Slow Ways.

The old railway line, the presence of under and over bridges and even a pedestrian crossing make this the easiest route I've so far completed....

The terrain is generally alright, but there are some steep hills with uneven steps and it wouldn't be suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs....
Ella Watkinson
Lovely countryside / views, however very difficult to find the paths in the heather, good carpark in Goathland with toilet, nowhere to stop en-route until you get to Whitby. Not suitable for buggies / wheelchairs, or anyone concerned about deviating from the route. Think we walked an additional 2 miles....
Karen Hunt
Accessibility wise - this walk is only suitable for keen walkers (not for bikes, pushchairs or those less able to walk) with lots of mud, several bouts of stepping stones, stairs and dodgy stiles...
Julie Foster
When we went the route crossing the railway line was blocked but a short detour was possible to get to the other side of the railway. Also add that you need to cross the railway line once approaching Ruswarp, you need to do this twice so please ensure you use the crossing point control to be advised if it ok to cross and no train is approaching....
Caroline Horsley
The track follows the old railway route and is a less demanding walk than the coastal route, but you still have some good views out to the coast....
Jill Baggaley
Cyclists and horses are prohibited on this route, Cinder Track is an alternative route between the two towns and is well signposted....
Jill Baggaley
It's the main road through Loftus and Easington with a 60mph limit and several bends with white lines. I definitely wouldn't walk along it as there are multiple ways to avoid it using footpaths....
Daisy C
High tide comes right up to base of cliffs so stay safe and stay on the tops....

Stearsb added Whirob two, a new walk from Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay
Walk this routeIt's an old railway track so it doesn't have any really steep parts but it isn't flat. It's popular with walkers, dog walker and cyclists but its a wide track and i had no problems....
Stearsb
A great and scenic walk between the two resorts, excellent paths and only a few challenging rocky steps, not sure how it would fare in poor weather and strongly suggest not trying this in windy conditions....
