Help connect Presteigne
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Presteigne’s Slow Ways.

Straight forward route that uses Offa's Dyke path for most of the way and so is well signposted....

The section after Nash is a climb on an apparently rarely used path, judging from the height of the vegetation, but as soon as it joins the Mortimer Trail in Little Brampton Wood the going is much easier. After leaving the Mortimer Trail, the last section across fields and down towards Kington were also straightforward. Throughout the walk the views were stunning in every direction, and I think this route is a great addition to the Slow Ways network....

After Oakley Hill Wood the route goes along an extremely muddy bridle way, followed by quite a long climb up a quiet road leading towards Deepmore Farm....

This is a more direct route but can be combined KniPre2 to create a circular walk. A good proportion of this walk is along very quiet (I didn't see a single car) country lanes and farm tracks. In some sections what looked like it would be a road on the map was definitely unsuitable for motor vehicles....

Most enjoyable route mainly following the waymarked Offa's Dyke path. Climb is quite gradual after the initial section outof Knighton and the route is generally easy to follow. Section through Ackhill Farm, after leaving the Offa's Dyke path, is less obvious and included a field of young cattle....

Walk this routeStarted off as a great route but when I got near Presteigne - the woods and quarry - there is a major access issue. The track used is totally overgrown and the route blocked by a fence and a sign warning of the dangers of the quarry. Will use half of this route to create Kinpre 2....

Bit of everything with streams, woods, forest, wild flowers and birds of prey. Easy to follow trail with a very rewarding 360 view at the top....

This route is better in my opinion as it follows the Mortimer Trail and cuts through some beautiful tranquil woodland. It also has an incredible view over the valley. Take some flip flops to paddle in the ford to cool your feet off !...
