Nice views towards the Black Mountains and Brown Clee and Titterstone Clee. Very well signposted and most of the stiles were in good nick....

At the highest point on the route, by the gate into Rhodd Wood, it's worth pausing for a break to take in the view west again; the elevation allows sight of distant Gwaunceste Hill, to the left of Hergest Ridge, and the distinctive Whimble Hill, part of the Radnor Forest massif, to the right. After passing to the left of the extensive farm buildings at Elsdon, the route turns right along the lane past the front of the main house at Elsdon (photo seven) where the full sweeping view encompasses Westhope Hill on the left, Burton Hill in the centre and Garnons Hill on the right. Further on, beyond the buildings of The Wood, the view includes Merbage Hill to the left of the Black Mountains, and further left, the ridge above Moccas Park (photo nine). A quiet lane leads down to a footpath across sheep pasture, with views across Weobley Church spire to the distinctively conical Pyon Hill, one of "The Devil's Butts" (photo fourteen). The route meets the A4112 at Whitehill, from where safer walking is facilitated by a roadside pavement all the way to New Bridge, at which point a pleasant footpath leads off the road and through fields, across Windmill Knapp and down into Weobley....

The first part from Kington to Gladestry follows the Offa’s Dyke Path across Hergest Ridge, and has extensive views in every direction. After Gladestry the route climbs through farmland up to moor land, the trails being generally pretty easy to follow, before descending again to Hundred House. A great walk, which I’d happily do again....

The section after Nash is a climb on an apparently rarely used path, judging from the height of the vegetation, but as soon as it joins the Mortimer Trail in Little Brampton Wood the going is much easier. After leaving the Mortimer Trail, the last section across fields and down towards Kington were also straightforward. Throughout the walk the views were stunning in every direction, and I think this route is a great addition to the Slow Ways network....

Walk this routeStarted off as a great route but when I got near Presteigne - the woods and quarry - there is a major access issue. The track used is totally overgrown and the route blocked by a fence and a sign warning of the dangers of the quarry. Will use half of this route to create Kinpre 2....

Bit of everything with streams, woods, forest, wild flowers and birds of prey. Easy to follow trail with a very rewarding 360 view at the top....

This route is better in my opinion as it follows the Mortimer Trail and cuts through some beautiful tranquil woodland. It also has an incredible view over the valley. Take some flip flops to paddle in the ford to cool your feet off !...

I would love to walk this route again in the summer when the fields are full of crops and the orchards are at their best. My sense is that someone might be able to create an even better route, but this is a good Slow Ways route and a great way to get between Leominster and Kington, complete with pubs for coffee/food/drinks after 11km and 22km, which is perfect for a 28km route....
