Help connect Inverkeithing

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Inverkeithing’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

The last bit feels like a struggle as you are walking into the town for a while and our accommodation was slightly off route at the other side. Again it is a relatively flat and manageable route....

It's very epic to walk across the Forth Bridge - it takes about an hour and half - with incredible views and much vertigo. On the otherside it is an anti-climatic walk along a busy motorway and over a hill into Inverkeithling. It's very straightforward with good paths and would be easy to cycle it too....

Walk this route

Other than walking along some busy road and routing our way away across some farmland, this is a really nice and accessible walk. Particularly loved the parts through sheep fields/woodland after the cemetery (through Bellknowes). The walk from the outer bit of Dunfermline to the final point on the route takes longer than we thought it would!...

Walk this route

Earlier on, however, there is a bit of nasty and busy road (the A985) you walk down and over - there is quite a wide bank on the side so it's walkable, but it's a bit of an unpleasant trudge....

Walk this route

The windy walk over the bridge is brilliant, with big wide views over the sea in both directions either side, and the occasional train rattling by on the adjacent bridge. Once you're out onto the either side, it's a bit of a weird walk to Inverkeithing along a motorway. But it is walkable and I think the only adjoining route to get to the town....

Walk this route

You have to use your common sense getting onto the walking bridge (i.e. veering off the Slow Way path slightly) and adjust according to road closures, which might mean (as it did for us) walking under the under path to get to the other side of the bridge....

Walk this route

Popular with walkers, runners, cyclists, dog walkers, mostly easy, one set of stairs at Inverkeithing end but there’s a short easy detour to avoid them. Mostly tarmac, some woodland sections in Dalgety Bay. Great views....

On windy days you need to hold onto your hat. Also worth a detour on the path around Cruickness....

The walk is well marked and is used by walker, runners and cyclists....

Walk this route

It's not the most scenic of walks and is generally quite noisy with traffic but why wait for a train when you can walk there. Pittencrief Park is well worth the visit once you arrive in Dunfermline...

Walk this route

It's a simple enough walk with a selection of terrain. Pavement, road and off road....

Walk this route

Keep your eyes open for any footpath closures as you don't always use the most direct East footpath with excellent views to the Forth Bridge and sometimes have to cross or use the underpass stairs to access the West footpath which has an equally stunning view of the Queensferry Crossing. Once in Queensferry there is an abundance of shops, cafes' restaurants and pubs to while away an hour or two before heading back over the bridge or catching a train from Dalmeny or a bus....

Paul

Walk this route

You can make it a shorter walk by starting from Limekilns rather than Inverkeithing. The walk is part of the Fife Coastal Path so is well signed, and good stretches are off road....

Walk this route

A straightforward walk from Inverkeithing following the Fife Coastal Path to St David's Pier Harbour. The paths are generally paved and shared with cyclists with a section of gravel type paths that have been recently upgraded. Some great views to be had over the Forth to Edinburgh and beyond....
