The Ingleborough National Nature Reserve also had an obvious path although it was a bit stony and rough sometimes, and also had some stone paving across boggier areas. On leaving the Pennine Bridleway, there were several fields to cross (including one ladder stile), one of which contained a lot of cows and calves – and also a bull!! A short section of road, and some more fields brought me to a line of small limestone cliffs with a hidden gap leading to the higher path through wildflower meadows....

Slow Ways added Hormal zero, a new walk from Horton in Ribblesdale to Malham
Walk this routeAfter passing underneath the railway line, the road to Helwith Bridge is fairly narrow, and used a lot by quarry trucks, but the Tarmac quarry company have created a safe path along the edge of the fields here. Then there is a short section of road and a field track (where I saw a deer and a small murmuration), before a longer, but very quiet, narrow tarmacked road to Little Stainforth, with good views and lots of lovely old farm buildings. The little road from here takes you up to Stainforth, which has public toilets, and a pub....

The walk along the River Skirfare to Litton was very nice, despite the rain we had to endure. The route crossed the river on stepping stones, but surprisingly, despite a fair bit of rain, I was able to walk on the river bed and hold onto the stones! There were good views of the valleys despite the rain. All-in-all, a very enjoyable walk, despite the weather. I might have given this 5* in good weather with the potential for excellent views....

mtormey added Horket two, a new walk from Horton in Ribblesdale to Kettlewell
Walk this routeThe walk down the road was fine for walking, and the last section of off-road paths towards Horton was really comfortable and pleasant. It's a nicely varied route with a lot on offer, and a really fun and beautiful (but sometimes challenging!) walk....

I walked this route from Horton to Settle. For a moderate length route, there's so much on offer! At times, it was a bit unclear exactly which side of a fence or wall I was meant to be walking on, but I encountered no difficulty following the route as drawn generally....

A mainly low level route following the River Ribble between two points on the scenic Settle - Carlisle railway. The section of the route from Horton in Ribblesdale to Helwith Bridge is by the river, from there the next section to Stainforth is mainly along a tarmac lane (little traffic) - another alternative would be to cross the river and follow the official Ribble Way path along the fellside....
