Help connect Frodsham
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Frodsham’s Slow Ways.

The path between Godscroft Hall and Hatley Farm is overgrown to the point of impassable. With this failure, I switched to Helfro 2 which uses Godscrof/Hatley Lane. It seems the local pedestrians all use this option too (the motorists were all considerate), which might explain the overgrown path....

Just one section of road walking, which was well used by other pedestrians, had good lines of sight and drivers were all considerate....

Leaving the road to follow some narrow and often overgrown footpaths, west of the Weaver, felt like it could cost the route a star, but on reflection it seemed churlish to do so on such a solid Slow Way. Full marks...

It starts off very promising - Frodsham is a lovely (dog friendly) town, and to start with, the route is along well surfaced and pleasant paths....
Dannywith
An enjoyable route combining both urban and rural sections, and a lengthy wander along the Weaver Navigation. Slightly rerouted from the original to correct a navigational error, the route is still foot-only, however, due to some of the terrain: fields, narrow paths etc, when off-road Starts and ends at railway stations, although amenities are better in Frodsham than they are in Runcorn, as the station isn't near the town centre....

Although the map roughly gives the route, it's nowhere near detailed enough to follow on the ground....

A good rural route between two villages, although use of footpaths across fields with gates and kissing gates make it a foot-only route....

A track along a brook (tarmac with soil and mud in places) brings us to the main road, where we cross and head down another unpaved country road. A good rural route between two villages, although use of footpaths across fields with gates and kissing gates make it a foot-only route....

The path is 95% accurate, except for the section entering the outskirts of Frodsham: there is no footpath from the fields onto Thirlmere Close (this is someone's garden!). I've submitted a new version to correct this....

Walk this routeThis route, however, is not feasible: the footpath connecting Thornton-le-Moors and Elton has seemingly been removed by the landowner, with crops growing over the route snd stiles removed or grown over. I've submitted an alternative that skirts around these fields....
Hiking Historian
As I've said, a foot-only route, due to the terrain, but a pleasant country route, only somewhat marred by heavy industry at the edge of civilisation....

Hiking Historian added Ellfro two, a new walk from Ellesmere Port to Frodsham
Walk this routeSection of footpath from Godscroft Cottages to Hatley House is very rarely walked so path is vague. Some sections very muddy when I walked it, will be easier going in Summer. A few stiles to navigate....

It is possible to stay on a path along the river and then follow a marked public right of way through the chemical works which emerges at the Liverpool Road roundabout west of the town centre, but this is extremely unpleasant. See alternative route - Frodwar two - for a much nicer option....

Walk this routeUnfortunately, we were unable to download the route to our Strava, so tried to follow the route as closely as we could. From Runcorn RailwayStation to Sutton Causeway, this is a very straightforward route....
