Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Hiking Historian
22 May 2022A marked improvement on the original route.
Good transport and shopping at either end.
Route starts with an uphill climb from Helsby, then a lengthy road walk (at time of writing, closed to traffic), mostly unpaved but with some paved sections. Downhill and then onto footpaths, narrow between hedges and fences, before heading across meadows. A track along a brook (tarmac with soil and mud in places) brings us to the main road, where we cross and head down another unpaved country road. This route follows the road around in a loop, disregarding the footpath between Godscroft and Hatley as overgrown (although I found it passable and have reinstated it as HELFRO Three). A footpath across fields brings us into Frodsham; tarmac paths through Castle Park, and around the back of the shops before bringing us out near the station.
A good rural route between two villages, although use of footpaths across fields with gates and kissing gates make it a foot-only route.
