From Whippingham an alternative route to the main road could be Beatrice Avenue, passing St Mildred’s Church, and Saunders Way, passing East Cowes cemetery....

The route begins walking out of the town centre of East Cowes (shops, cafes, Waitrose, public loos and transport links) on the main road passing Osbourne House and out of town. There is a lovely but hilly section on quiet roads to the back of Wootton Bridge where you wind through the backs of a 1970s housing estate to come out at Wootton Creek....

To avoid the allotments (re previous review): from the Quay in Newport it is possible to follow the dockside road until the junction with the footpath near the Premier Inn....

However the route is shown going through the allotments which isn’t possible. When you reach the allotments you can turn left down Kingston Road and then into the playing field after the cemetery....

To reach East Cowes from West, you can walk through the town, along Birmingham Road and into Medina Road - at the end of which, you can catch the chain ferry (Floating Bridge 6) to East Cowes. If FB6 is not in service, there will be passenger-only boat to take you across the river. From East Cowes, it's a few minutes through town to reach the Red Funnel ferry terminal....
