It is a very easy route to follow as most of it is on the Saxon Shore Way and/or the English Coast Path. There is now a very easy broad white path , constructed in the last couple of years, which removes all ambiguity between the lighthouse and the White Cliffs visitor centre....

From the end of Dover seafront the route goes along East Cliff and up the steep Dame Vera Lynn Way, which ends in a long flight of steps and another steep climb. There are lots of places to rest along the way, with refreshments and public toilets at Dover, White Cliffs, South Foreland Lighthouse, St Margaret's Bay, Kingsdown, Walmer and Deal....

The route to Sandwich is very easy to follow as there is a sign at the start and concrete markers across the golf course. Will definitely walk again....

At the edge of Deal, the path becomes a concrete promenade along the sea wall past attractive buildings as far as the pier, where the route nips into the town centre to finish. There were some kissing gates to negotiate, but the route was pretty flat all the way....

Beautiful, straightforward walk along the coast, and both Deal and Sandwich have shops and restaurants that are great start/end points....

If you walk this route, you shouldn't have any trouble, and it's a perfectly good route, but I've uploaded DovDea two that should be a bit more precise to follow....

I walked this route from Dover to Deal. I found the stretch of road walking in St Margaret's to be surprisingly unpleasant, a narrow road with little cover. Along this road, your choice is walking on the road, a narrow stretch of tarmac with no pavement, or on the "beach", which makes for very slow walking along the rocks. There's a lot to explore and discover in Deal, I was quite pleased to end my walking for the day there and explore!...

Walk this routeThe purple line on the second photo (from the Slow Ways route) is correct, but the gpx (at least in 2022) follows the OS map....

For almost its entire length, the route follows the Saxon Shore Way, which is well signposted and waymarked. Access issues: There are stiles and kissing gates where the footpath crosses the Royal St George's Golf Club; and access to the promenade at Sandown, to the north of Deal is down a short flight of steps....

Rather than head straight for the coastline, it's nice to go across the flat drained fields for a bit first, and cut across a bit later....

Getting onto the walk is somewhat hard to find in Dover, and is best approached from the seafront and beach at Dover....
