Help connect Shettleston
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Shettleston’s Slow Ways.

Walk this routeNot being from Glasgow it's always good to visit new areas, and there's a lot to see along the route (buildings, people, historic sites, etc). Duke St has (currently) lots of coffee shops, after which refreshment options diminish until you get to Shettleston....

Walk this routeIt is a simple, direct and mostly enjoyable route (in spite of quite long sections through built-up areas)....

It follows the loopy bends of the river Clyde before striking uphill to Shettleston. The route appealed because it follows the river, and I enjoyed the river section very much....

Coming into Glasgow past the famous Barrowland ballroom, and then along Argyle street to Central station, was a great way to arrive....

A further few residential streets and the route reaches its end at Shettleston Railway Station....

The route begins outside Glasgow Central Rail Station and heads immediately for the River Clyde which it follows for most of its distance. After a short while, the route enters Glasgow Green and then takes the River Clyde Walkway which follows the north bank of the river. Because it follows the meanders of the river, this is quite a long route between the start and end points (Glasgow and Shettleston)....

I've not walked the entire route, but when I walked Glabis One I encountered part of it, and it is overgrown with Japanese knotweed and (for me at least) impassable. The problem is at the footpath linking Littlehill Golf Club to Acredyke Road, passing east of Stobhill Hospital. It is so overgrown it didn't feel safe underfoot....

The road walking is on Westburn Rd and Calder Rd shortly after the route leaves Newton. It's odd because the OS maps do suggest that road as part of a "recreational route" for pedestrians, perhaps the Clyde Walkway went along there at some point....
