Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

07 Aug 2021 (edited 14 Jul 2023)There is a mile long section on a rural road without a pavement which doesn't look safe for pedestrians. SheUdd two uses a riverside footpath to avoid it and is about the same length.
The road walking is on Westburn Rd and Calder Rd shortly after the route leaves Newton. It has no pavement, little to no verge, and hedges on either side limiting views of approaching traffic. There are quite tight bends and the speed limit is 60mph. I haven't actually tried to walk this route, but I think it's pretty clear from Google Street View footage, which is where the photos come from. I looked at the route as part of the project to shorten some of the most indirect Slow Ways.
It's odd because the OS maps do suggest that road as part of a "recreational route" for pedestrians, perhaps the Clyde Walkway went along there at some point. It does overlap with a NCN route 25, might be fine on a bike.
Edited to tidy up photo references.
