This ferry service is often the first to be cancelled in inclement weather - docking at Kilcreggan is unsafe in high winds/strong currents, with no realistic alternate routes, so checking with CalMac website is a must The ferry is not suitable for wheelchair users - boarding at both ends involves steps....

The route started from Wemyss Bay climbing up the winding road through a caravan park but it was not too steep. After a short stretch of pavemented road, I descended through the houses down about seven flights of steps to Inverkip station where there were more steps down, but there was a lift there. There were several possible lunch stops in Inverkip, and also some toilets on the main A78 road, at the layby just west of the marina. This section away from the road was lovely apart from one or two irresponsible dog owners....

This makes a nice way of avoiding the first main road bit of the original route and also avoids the steps to cross the railway. The route stays next to the buildings and on the side of the road nearest the railway, because the rest is for ferry users....

There was a staircase over railway, but there was also an easy road alternative just beyond. This wasn't really a problem because the open alternative around the new Greenock Ocean Terminal building was so close by that it was unmissable....

Review of Slow Ways Route Wemgou (Wemyss Bay to Gourock). I was staying in Inverkip so tackled the route in two sections (Inverkip to Wemyss Bay and Gourock to Inverkip), joining up the start and finish points using the excellent bus service which runs down the Clyde coast between Glasgow and Largs....

I walked this route in reverse (i.e. from Greenock to Gourock) in combination with the adjoining route (Grepor one: Greenock to Port Glasgow)....
