Description
This offers an alternative Gourock start, avoiding a bit of road and the steps over the railway. It also fixes the slight error which was introduced by the new cruise ship terminal

31 Aug 2023There is an official cycle track starting from platform one of Gourock Station, which continues behind the CalMac Ferry Port and along the coast side of the railway. It is open all the time that the station is open, which means it is only inaccessible from 1am to 4am every night including weekends. This makes a nice way of avoiding the first main road bit of the original route and also avoids the steps to cross the railway. The route stays next to the buildings and on the side of the road nearest the railway, because the rest is for ferry users.
Most of this route was gorgeous, walking along the off-road esplanade along the beautiful Clyde Estuary. However there were parts where it was necessary to walk along the pavement of the main road. Some of these were due to exclusive housing and boat clubs.
As I walked along the coast I had views across to Helensburgh and the sunken submarine. In fact all the coastal views were wonderful, especially while the sun was out.
The section past Clydeport Container Terminal was interesting rather than picturesque! It was quite a hive of activity.
