Help connect Fowey
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Fowey’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
The addition of the cross estuary ferry journey between Fowey and Polruan also adds to its appeal. Plenty of interest en route...

However the route goes around the the headland at Pencarrow Head rather than taking the somewhat sketchy but more direct path to the north - cutting off the headland. The gpx for this route is also more accurate. An excellent day out....

For people who are happy with the ascent this should be a 5 star route, but there are some issues with accuracy/access and overgrown fields on this route. Use Fowloo Three instead. It's very similar, but easier to follow and removes a couple of issues....

The route is mostly on the South West Coast Path National Trail which is easy to follow....

Mostly the route follows the coast path a National Trail so navigation is relatively easy....
Tim Ryan
There is a long road section between Lansallos and Polperro, but these are lightly used roads (at least in May when I walked it) and are an easier option than the coast path....
Tim Ryan
I deviated slightly from the route because I was completing the Saints Way, so went above/around Polkerris and took a less urban route into Fowey at the end....

I suspect the other reviewers, especially those coming from the direction of Fowey, were already using this route - since it is definitely the most obvious if you are not attempting to follow the gpx track precisely....

I walked this route while attempting to walk losfow one, walking from Lostwithiel to Fowey - and finding the original impossible to navigate through Golant. It is a fantastic walk, relatively direct and along well-used footpaths and quiet lanes. The surroundings are very beautiful....

I do wonder if an alternative that drops into Par via the Saints Way, rather than using the coast path, might be viable - and possibly even shorter and more direct. But that doesn’t detract at all from this route, which is fabulous....

I walked this from Fowey and am not totally sure I was on the right path at all times but I seemed to end up in Lostwithiel. There is some degree of shade for most of the way that was very welcome on a hot day. I pretty much kept to the main path at all times except for the field detour above Golant that took in some rustling wheat, wildflowers and a few very chilled horses....
Edensyard
It dips in and out of the Saints Way but be mindful to hug the coastpath between Par and Polkeris and take a more direct route into Fowey if you wish to stay on the slowway....
Edensyard
It could be shortened by using the lane/track/path that links Torfrey and Lanheriott Farm, bypassing Golant. This involves less uphill/downhill but can be very muddy, especially just north of Lanheriott Farm - only recommended if the ground is dry! Although more hilly and circuitous, the route through Golant is scenic and easier underfoot, plus there are refreshment options (pub & café)....
MaddyT
It mostly follows the Saints Way from Fowey, then joins the coast path just above Polkerris; you could stay on the Saints Way if you’re happy to bypass Polkerris....

While this scores full marks for scenery it's a tough schlep for even an experienced walker and in my mind isn't ideal for the Slow Ways network, which predominantly is a means of getting from A to B....

Quiet, leafy country lanes, good quality and well signposted footpaths, rolling hills, photogenic coastline and good views. You really feel like you are getting one-up on other modes of transport. I diverted for the last mile or so, just the outskirts of Par and St Blazey but it's mostly residential streets and they are very unlikely to pose any problems....

You'll also find food and water at Polperro (endless shops, cafes) and Talland (at most, two). It's flatter between Polperro and Looe, but the other half is demanding on the calves! Otherwise beaches at Lanteglos (with smugglers' cart tracks still visible!) and Talland are nearer the route and gorgeous....
