Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

09 Aug 2022This is mostly a brilliant route, but there are some accuracy issues around Golant - it is not possible to walk the route as given in the gpx file, as it passes through a private garden. Moreover, the footpath suggested along the top of Golant Down does not seem to exist on the ground, and is at best little used. It appeared to be entirely inaccessible from the Fowey direction. Instead, I suggest walking the very well used, and obvious, Saints Way - which a large section of the rest of the route uses anyway.
I suspect the other reviewers, especially those coming from the direction of Fowey, were already using this route - since it is definitely the most obvious if you are not attempting to follow the gpx track precisely.
I have uploaded a corrected route. It is a shame there is no way to transfer over the positive reviews, because other than this issue, it is a fabulous slow way, and I agree with everything else the previous reviewers have said. Unfortunately, as it stands though, I need to flag it for accuracy.

11 Jul 2022Beautiful varied path no problems. I walked this from Fowey and am not totally sure I was on the right path at all times but I seemed to end up in Lostwithiel. There is some degree of shade for most of the way that was very welcome on a hot day. I pretty much kept to the main path at all times except for the field detour above Golant that took in some rustling wheat, wildflowers and a few very chilled horses.

17 Apr 2022This is an enjoyable walk along quiet lanes and well-marked paths.
It could be shortened by using the lane/track/path that links Torfrey and Lanheriott Farm, bypassing Golant. This involves less uphill/downhill but can be very muddy, especially just north of Lanheriott Farm - only recommended if the ground is dry!
Although more hilly and circuitous, the route through Golant is scenic and easier underfoot, plus there are refreshment options (pub & café).

26 Mar 2022I did this route in reverse but it worked perfectly. Much of it follows the Saints Way so there are way markers on route. It’s a mix of quiet lanes and off road paths through fields and woodlands. There are some steep sections and some stiles. There are plenty of spectacular views over the Fowey valley to be enjoyed. The woodland sections are peaceful with lots of wild flowers and just the sound of the birds.
