Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

For this specific reason, I am actually minded to recommend the route – to encourage others to use it (albeit with due care, for the reasons given). I would recommend the route (but for walkers only), with the warning that there are several muddy sections, several rather lonely sections and one steep/overgrown section (specified above)....

The canal is at the same level on both sides of the road, but the level is similar to the road level. Boats need to go into the lock, and the water level will be dropped by 8 feet (by Scottish Canals staff) so that the boat can sail under the road, then the lock is refilled ready for the next boat. The route left the canal here to follow the road under Erskine Bridge to the end point....

A short walk alongside the river brought me to the former railway section of the cycle route, where I was spotted by a deer!...

I've attached two photos I took at the Renfrew end of the blocked section (from the cycle track), and a screenshot of each end of the gated industrial road from Google Street View....

Although I walked this route a closely as possible, I don't recommend it in it's present state! Descending into Drumry, down steps to the dual carriageway, the route has us crossing the road at the roundabout....

I completed this route in 1hr at a quick pace and opted to walk the route back home again instead of taking the train....

Unfortunately the route passes through a an industrial fuel depot with no public access, but with a diversion it's a perfectly reasonable route. Do be aware of the ferry schedule - check in advance to be certain the ferry will be running. The crossing itself is very quick....

Do have a look at the clock as you pass through Clydebank Shopping Centre - I don't think it runs anymore but it was once animated with various moving statues and opening panels when it struck the hour. I never realised how towering the Erskine Bridge is. It's very high up!...

Review of SlowWays Route Clyren (Clydebank to Renfrew). The route turns right to follow the edge of the Clyde and arrive at the Yoker-Renfrew ferry slipway. The route from the ferry slipway to the town centre follows a footpath along the bed of an old railway line before turning east along Fulbar Street and aiming for the well-known landmark of the Renfrew Town Hall tower....

The route is very straightforward, following a canal towpath for most of its length. After crossing Dumbarton Road at Dalmuir (there is a pedestrian crossing here) the canal towpath is re-joined and followed to the Clyde Shopping Centre....
