Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

16 Jun 2023 (edited 24 Jun 2023)I agree this route fails because a chunk of it is plotted along a private industrial road. I have replotted it along the official cycle route (ClyRen Two). I've attached two photos I took at the Renfrew end of the blocked section (from the cycle track), and a screenshot of each end of the gated industrial road from Google Street View.

12 Oct 2021A pleasant walk, keeping away from busy roads. Unfortunately the route passes through a an industrial fuel depot with no public access, but with a diversion it's a perfectly reasonable route. Do be aware of the ferry schedule - check in advance to be certain the ferry will be running. The crossing itself is very quick.

31 May 2021Review of SlowWays Route Clyren (Clydebank to Renfrew).
I reviewed this route on a warm, sunny day in May 2021. The route is extremely interesting, very varied and has the added attraction of a short ferry journey.
The route begins at Clydebank Railway Station. From here it heads east to cross the busy Argyll Road before picking up a footpath heading south and going under a railway and a road. The route then recommends following Cart Street as it bends south and east. This is not possible as there are locked gates barring the way (the road seems to be part of the Peel Ports estate). Instead, I had to retrace my steps slightly and follow Atlas Street and then Clyde Street. At the end of Clyde Street there is a signed cycle path which exits down a lane to the south. This path should be followed to re-join the original route. There is then a pleasant stretch with the River Clyde starting to come into view. The route turns right to follow the edge of the Clyde and arrive at the Yoker-Renfrew ferry slipway.
The ferry crossing is a lovely experience, very unusual and very friendly. It only takes a couple of minutes to reach the slipway on the Renfrew side. Please check ferry running times if relying on this crossing. Please also note that a new bridge is to be built across the Clyde not far from here in the next year or two. I fear that the ferry may be done away with as a result, which would be very sad.
The route from the ferry slipway to the town centre follows a footpath along the bed of an old railway line before turning east along Fulbar Street and aiming for the well-known landmark of the Renfrew Town Hall tower.
Overall a very good route but with a minor flaw which unfortunately means I can’t recommend it as part of the Slow Ways network until it is amended.
