26 Mar 2022Woodley to Wokingham (Woowok 1) review.
The walk begins near Woodley shopping precinct, with plenty of amenities near to hand. There is about a mile along paved suburban streets to leave Woodley and reach the River Loddon.
A bridge and river footpath leads into Dinton Pastures Country Park (Photo 1). The main paths through the park are wide and well maintained. There is a café (dintoncafes.com) beside the main lake, although it is about half a mile off the route (Photo 2).
Unfortunately, once the route leaves the park, it is pavement walking all the way into Wokingham, including a stretch along the busy Reading Road.
Overall, the high percentage of pavement walking made this a difficult Slow Way to enjoy. For a related route which takes in more of the park and River Lodden, consider Twyford to Wokingham (Twywok 1).

22 Jan 2022This route leads mostly through an urban area, a long stretch of it along busy Reading Road in Wokingham. A major off-road diversion is hardly possible because it is necessary to walk under M4. Expect to walk between rows of houses most of the time. The only more enjoyable part is through the Dinton Pastures Country Park where the footpaths are in general wide and well-kept. I didn't even come across a muddy spot. Shops and other facilities are within easy reach and the route is fairly safe and accurate.

16 Jan 2022Route starts in shopping centre with cafés, then through Dinton Pastures Country Park, which can be muddy & rough, but has a café. The rest is tarmac paved sidewalk, it is narrow and uneven in places, and adjacent to busy roads. Several diversions are easy. Bus routes are close to route. Wokingham station has lifts and a level crossing.
