Route mainly follows the route of the South Staffs Railway. Very easy to follow. Can get muddy so boots definitely recommended. No stiles but one set of steps. Buses to Wolverhampton at either end. Buses also to Stourbridge from Wombourne

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

A very easy to navigat, enjoyable route mostly following the disused railway line. As such it is pretty flat and accessible but sadly the exit at Wombourne entails a flight of steps which makes the track exit at this point unavailable to wheelchairs, buggies etc. There are no facilities at the Wighwick end but there is a cafe in an old station building near to Wombourne and plenty of picnic tables and benches along the route for those bringing their own food.It seems to be a well used path, feels very safe and has many attractive views along the way. Where the track is in cuttings it was very wet and muddy - boots advised!! Wombourne has plenty of facilities for eating and shopping and good bus links to Wolverhampton and Stourbridge. Recommend The Old Bush.

A direct, safe and relaxing walk. Following the route of the old South Staffs Railway it's well used, friendly and very easy to follow. Being in an old cutting it gets boggy, so boots are a must for most days. We caught the hourly bus from Wolverhampton and made our separate ways on the frequent buses to Stourbridge and Wolverhampton from Wombourne. Accessibility-wise there is a single set of steps as you leave the railway at Wombourne. There's a pub in Wightwick, a cafe on the route, about 1km from the Wombourne end and multiple pubs and food options in Wombourne itself. Special mention must be made for the Old Bush, a friendly community pub where we stopped afterwards for food and an excellent selection of well kept beers.
