Description

I created this route to avoid three access problems with Warwes One: (1) Oxted Downs - no diagonal path exists - follow Vanguard Way signs downhill to North Downs Way, (2) Broomlands Lane - no access through Moorhouse sandpits, (3) Squerries Court - no path across private land. It also avoids crossing the A25 more than once, using a poorly defined footpath off Broomlands Lane and using the dangerous Goodley Stock Road (it's also a bus route!). I've made use of some of the paths from Oxtwes Two south of the A25.
Otherwise this is a pleasant route with good views although you are aware of noise from the M25 nearer Westerham. The road walking necessary is mainly quiet. The B269 Titsey Road is quite busy as is the A25 but there are good breaks in traffic for crossing both safely. There are good shops and cafes at both ends and bus services (Warlingham to Croydon, Westerham to Oxted or Bromley). Toilets at Leas Road, Warlingham and Fullers Hill, Westerham. At junction of North Downs Way and Pitchfont Lane are steep steps. Between Pitchfont Farm and the A25 there are gates and stiles and the path can be soggy in places. Oxted Downs path is very steep

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.
