04 Dec 2022Review of Slow Ways Route Stiban 2 (Stirling to Bannockburn two)
I walked this route (in reverse) on the way back from reviewing Stiban 1. It is a simple and mostly direct route between the two population centres. Leaving Bannockburn there is a steep downhill section (with steps but also a ramped alternative) leading into Ladywell Park. After crossing the park, the route passes between a housing estate and Balquhidderock Wood. I found the paths here extremely muddy (this was in December) and was glad I was wearing hiking boots. After a while the route heads into the housing estate and eventually emerges onto Broom Road. This road is followed almost to the centre of Stirling. The route advises using the underpass to negotiate Craigs Roundabout although I found that there were also relatively safe crossing points at road level. Once past the roundabout, it is a short walk to the centre of Stirling and the end of the route. Overall I found this a short, very simple and fairly basic route which links the two population centres but provides relatively little of particular interest, especially once the main road is reached. The route itself is well mapped and easy to follow. Stepped and muddy sections were the main challenges encountered.
