Description
This is an alternative , higher-level route for PontAmm. It follows the Heart of Wales Line Trail, and avoids the access difficulties noted on the lower level route; as well as giving fabulous views! Caution though - it crosses open moorland and, in extreme weather or low visibility, this section is not advisable. The route has no access issues (though there are some boggy sections) but does have considerable elevation gain. This is steeper if you are going from Ammanford - Pontarddulais, but is considerable either way round!
Both Ammanford and Pontarddulais have shops, pubs, cafes, railway and bus stations. There are no facilities along the path between the two settlements.
The route is pretty well marked with the Heart of Wales Line Trail markers - a roundel with a train crossing a viaduct. On the open moorland there is a rough track which you can follow, with intermittent footpath marker posts

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.
