Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

23 Oct 2023The only difference with Marsha one, is that after Caalm Camp, where Marsha one crosses the tar road and continues through the grassland, Marsha two follows the tar road towards Stour Row. The path of Marsha one’s detour, however, is hardly visible and partly overgrown. The tar road is relatively quiet, so when comfort counts, I would recommend Marsha two.
It is a very pleasant country side walk, starting in Marnhull, birthplace of Tess (from Thomas Hardy's “Tess of the d’Urbervilles” (1891). The route follows stage 9 of the Hardy Way.
The first half is fairly flat, the second half more hilly, with the steepest part at the end. So it is an option to start in Shafterbury.
Despite being part of the Hardy Way, overall I would rate the consistency of the signposting and the technical quality of the stiles and bridges as poor.
For pictures, see my review of Marsha one.
