Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

02 Feb 2024I walked this urban route at the beginning of February from Longbenton, (Four Lane Ends Metro Station) to Wallsend Metro Station. The weather was mild and bright. There had been some rain the previous day so there were some muddy patches though could be skirted. Easily doable in trainers. More than half of this route is on pavements along roads with the middle section using footpaths and bridal paths.
The route begins at the metro station and you walk along Front Street turning right onto Caoch Lane. You pass housing on your right and playing fields/sports ground on your left. Continue walking past Northumbria University's Coach Lane Campus then turn left onto footpath then bridal path. Where paths meet a short distance to the left will yake you to the entrance of Newcastle United Academy.
You continue along the footpath until you come to more housing before using the underpass to cross the busy Coast Road. From here on you are walking into Wallsend along urban streets.
You arrive at the Metro and Bus Station. If you have time you can visit the Roman Fort of Segundunum which is also the strat/finish of the Hadrians Wall National Trail.
