27 Jan 2023I walked this route from Pontarddulais to Llanelli. I'm not familiar with the Pontarddulais section, but this seems like the most sensible route.
From Pontarddulais, the route follows the main road until Hendy. After cutting though a housing estate, you climb two flights of stairs to cross a bridge spanning the M4. There are several narrow kissing gates present from this point onwards. The route crosses a field with a beautiful view of the estuary, passing a small church. At this point you walk along quiet country roads, before crossing another field. Take a left as you enter the field and cross the wooden beams to reach a kissing gate. Another country road will take you to the A4138, which is busy and difficult to cross. The route takes you through Llangennech to avoid a 700m of the main road without a footpath.
Rejoining the A4138 at Trosserch Road, it's a long and unpleasant walk for 3km into Dafen. If you are walking this in the same direction as me, it's better to stay on the south side of the road, instead of using the under pass. The footpath is quite narrow, and there is a constant stream of traffic.
The route improves when you reach Dafen, the park here offers an optional picnic spot. The are several elevation gains at Bryngwyn Road and Penallt Road, and equal elevation losses. After Stebonheath, the route passes near to the town centre before heading to the train station.
