Description
The third proposed route aspires to eliminate some drawbacks of Ligott one and two. First, it avoid the problematic section between Philpot lane and Youngstroat Lane which is almost impassible. It also avoid walking long distances on busy roads and takes a shortcut close to Ottershaw where the route approaches Paragon Roundabout.
Walkers should be mindful when approaching the Broadoak farm that a public footpath by-passing the farm leads right next to the gate to the farm and it is quite overgrown. See a photo below

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

05 Sep 2023It is mostly a quiet, well shaded route through Surrey countryside. One drawback is that the paths it follows are not always well maintained and if I didn't have long trousers I would be stung all over by nettles and scratched by thorny bramble canes.
One thing to watch out for is a public bypass of the Broadoak farm approx. 5km from Lightwater. A sign on the gate to the farm makes it clear that the owner doesn't want anyone who is not invited to enter it. There is a way round the gate but it's easy to overlook. There are steps right next to the wide gate but they are overgrown and it doesn't look like a genuine public footpath at all. It is, however, the only way of avoiding Broadoak farm.
The section between Philpot lane and Youngstroat Lane is seemingly an unnecessary by-pass but I found the more direct way too overgrown so this route is probably the best one.
The last section before Ottershaw from the roundabout at the McLaren Center is mostly next to a busy road but it is on a separate pavement which does not border on the road. It may seem that a little detour via the Great Blackmole Pond would be more enjoyable but it is inaccessible to the public, I'm afraid.
