Description
Given the potential barriers of the sprawling development of Kingsteignton, the A380 express way, the A381, the mainline railway and the River Teign this is an imaginative and for the most part tranquil way. The highlights are the 2 off-road sections, neither of which is appropriate for “wheels”.
I don’t know where the idea of a “foreshore path” originates? There has never been public right of way through the Boat Yard upstream of Shaldon Bridge and the railway effectively rules out an intertidal track such as has evolved on the south bank (see KinTei2). On exiting from Broad Meadow it only requires a 300m pavement walk along the A381 to the traffic lights to link with a maintained off-road and pedestrian-friendly urban way through the town to the station. This vastly improves on finishing via the A379 while adding minimum mileage.
In KinTei1 PAV correctly identifies both the fault in the original KinTei gpx and its resolution: KinTei 3 uploads the corrected gpx.
I liked Pav’s concise directions in KinTei1 and decided to attempt the walk with reference to neither OS map nor gpx track. The absence of both “visible” street name signs (particularly at the start), and of “distance indication” for identified stretches, proved “unsettling” (OK, I got the map out a couple of times for reassurance!). Consequently, I have emulated Pav’s descriptive style used in KinTei1, which seems appropriate for this predominantly road route, but have added approximate stage and cumulative distances in my Review

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

07 Nov 2023This is a pleasant, safe and easy assessable route.
Some parts are not suitable for wheels.
I would definitely suggest it to others and walk it again.
I had a very enjoyable time walking this route.

04 Nov 20231. Depart bus stop outside Library heading NE. Take first turning right, Fore Street - merges into Vicarage Hill.
Stage Distance: 913m Cumulative Distance: 913m
2. Turn left into sign-posted Longford Lane and immediately right along sign-posted CoombsEnd Road, through the
housing estate.
Stage Distance: 113m Cumulative Distance: 1.26k
3. Take path leading to the pedestrian bridge over the A380. Cross bridge (slope access not steps). Exit bridge and
proceed along metalled road to “T” junction.
Stage distance: 58m Cumulative Distance: 1.84km
4. Turn left along gently climbing lane through woods, passing Wolfsgrove, to the next T junction.
Stage Distance 1.96km. Cumulative Distance: 3.8m
(Note: Optional, wheels friendly route.
Continue slightly steeper climb to Colway Cross and turn right for Bishopsteignton. Join Lindridge Rd at
Clanage Junction, then Smith Hill to Fore Street to rejoin original route.)
Advantages? Accessible by “wheels”, slightly shorter.
Disadvantages? Misses out off-road path – arguably the finest section of KinTei).
5. Turn right and promptly left along sign-posted and maintained footpath which drops steeply through woodland to
exit on a track taking you to Forder Lane. Some steps and 2 kissing gates.
Stage Distance: 800m. Cumulative Distance: 4.6km.
6. Left, along Forder Lane, past West Town Cottages. Becomes Fore Street. Follow to sign-posted Radway Hill. Stage
Distance:1.22km. Cumulative Distance: 5.82km.
7. Turn left up named Radway Hill to cross roads.
Stage Distance: 490m: Cumulative Distance: 6.31km
8. At cross roads continue straight on along sign-posted Coombe Lane, a very minor road, width <3m for stretches and
occasionally unexpectedly busy and with little passing space for vehicles.
Continue to, and then take, the sign-posted path, right, through kissing gate (badly drained, muddy after rain).
Convenient bench for a break.
Stage Distance: 950m. Cumulative Distance: 7.26km.
9. (Following an early Autumn mow/thresh there was no visible track). Head down field in SE direction, parallel to left
hand hedge and towards the distinct copse of more mature deciduous trees. Locate the very obvious mud track
which will lead to Broadmeadow).
Stage Distance: 250m. Cumulative Distance: 7.5km
10. Follow woodland path (kissing gates and styles) parallel to pasture, playing fields and Broadmeadow Industrial
Estate. Keep to pebble track (ie. Ignore metal slope accessing the Industrial Estate). Emerge onto A381 opposite
Cliff Park (the blue painted house).
Stage distance: 500 m. Cumulative Distance: 8.99k
11. Turn left along pavement for 300m and cross A381 at traffic lights. Take Shaldon Bridge approach road to very
quickly encounter sign-posted path left which initiates a pleasant, quiet and safer route through Teignmouth.
Stage distance: 500m. Cumulative Distance: 9.48km
12. Do not take the steps which access the foreshore ducking under the railway bridge but the second set of steps, 5m
left, which access the narrow path which runs parallel to the railway behind Teignmouth Rugby Ground and Bitten
House. Bear right to access, and then follow, Alexandra Terrace. Exit up steps and continue, right, to cross the
pedestrian footbridge.
Stage Distance: 998m Cumulative Distance: 10.5km
13. Finally through Teignmouth, past “The Blue Anchor” and via Teign Street (becomes Bank Street) until Station Road.
Turn left along Station Road to use the convenient traffic island to cross the A379 to the Station and route end.
Stage Distance: 500m Cumulative Distance: 11km.
