Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

29 Feb 2024Really nice and very easy to follow walk, taking you through hills, fields, woods, a couple of nice urban parks, and Cheltenham town centre. I walked it South to North, from Colesbourne to Cheltenham, and while I imagine a few parts would be a bit steep in the other direction, it skirts around the edge of Leckhampton hill so avoids any truly drastic slopes. A few notes, which are arranged as if you’re walking North to South, as the Slow Ways route is listed. All locations given as What3Words addresses – https://what3words.com/
If you’re walking from Cheltenham, you can park at Royal Well Car Park, a very short distance Southwest of the starting route: ///planet.passes.button
On the way through the residential area as you’re leaving Cheltenham, check-out the cute little garden that’s been given an award by a local group! It’s at ///movie.brings.vital
The path closure noted in the previous review (nearly two years ago!) is still in place, and I expect it will be for some time. It’s a bridge/section of path which is supposed to run from ///body.puff.less to ///tummy.pulled.table – instead, go via ///today.guards.curl and then enter the park at ///rock.coats.stars to rejoin the path.
There were a few spots which were very muddy, though none went on for very long and I expect they’re dependent on how much it’s been raining – it had been especially wet in the days before I walked it. Main hotspots are from ///mirror.riverboat.clocks to ///falls.repaying.cheetahs, and at ///trying.offstage.gateway and ///sweated.necklaces.telephone
You can split the walk pretty much exactly in two by parking at the layby at ///noise.elsewhere.magazines, which is only a few metres off the marked route, and directly on the Cotswold way.

06 Apr 2022Minor tweak: The footpath bridge over the former railway line near Sandy Lane is closed (no date for reopening), so a mild (5-minute?) detour is needed -- where the bridge is blocked off, follow the turn to the left to Sandy Lane, then walk up Sandy Lane and turn right to enter the park, where you can rejoin the route through the corner of the park.
Very pleasant walk from the centre of Cheltenham to Colesbourne, finishing neatly at the Colesbourne Inn. A good mix of town, hill and fields and beech avenues, with interesting views and landmarks (particularly the Round House at Pinswell). Some slight steep and muddy sections (lower Leckhampton slopes, could possibly be avoided by staying on Sandy Lane to the end of it) but generally easy going.
