Description

Addlestone to Ashford. The route is an improved version of Addash One, primarily to avoid walking along the B377 into Ashford any further than necessary: it goes across Chertsey meads, then crosses the Thames at Chertsey bridge, and follows the riverside some way, before turning off for Ashford at Laleham. Between Chertsey bridge and Ashford it is the same as the Chertsey to Ashford Slow Way, Cheash Two.

Refreshments at Laleham, and by Chertsey bridge.

Mix of urban pavements, parks and soft ground/mud on the footpaths. Chertsey Meads are low lying river meadows, and you may need to paddle through the lowest parts if water has collected. At least one stile.

The Greenfield recreation ground on the edge of Ashford is part of a large green area well used by local people for dog walking and picnics. Access at one point is partly restricted by a taut cable which locals duck under - I assume it's there to discourage bicycles. After some consideration, I've included this access point in the route, because it's pleasanter and shorter to walk across the rec ground than to walk round on the footpath, but there is a footpath around the outside of the rec ground if cable ducking is not your thing.

**** Special Note re Chertsey bridge
This busy little bridge is best crossed facing the oncoming traffic; to ensure safety, whichever direction you are coming from, first cross the river using the pavement on the near side of the bridge, without crossing the road. Then, after crossing the river, whichever direction you are coming from, it is possible to cross *underneath* the road, using the riverside path

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.
