There's lots to see on this coastal walk from Whitburn to South Shields including a labyrinth, lighthouse, birds and beaches....

It's direct and pleasant, and passes by some interesting sights including lighthouses, sculptures and the National Glass Centre....

At the start there is a local museum for those interested and some interesting architecture as you walk to the seafront where there is a nice below-ground Victorian public toilet if like me you like a bit of nostalgia (and another one above ground, no stairs, also victorian farther along the route)....

Further along is a sculpture of a life size disused house made from stone, the National Glass Centre (which gas a glass roof you can walk on if you decide), directly opposite Sunderland port where you can see large ships being unloaded. At present, you can walk up a VERY steep flight of steps hugging the side of the bridge at Sunderland should you choose, or take a steep curving path around a warehouse now converted to flats....
