Help connect Treherbert

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Treherbert’s Slow Ways.

You start on Bute Street in Treherbert and you`re still on Bute Street when you reach Treorchy, although the street does actually change its name during the middle stretch through Ynyswen....

The path then leads into the forestry and a long steady trudge uphill on very rough paths, eventually coming out at the zip-wire facility running from the top of the mountain above Llyn Fawr down to the former Tower Colliery site. The left hand gravel road leads down to the former colliery site, so I took the right hand gravel road and a little short cut to the left on a right hand bend, which does re-join the planned path and comes out near the hairpin bend on the A4061. Although there is a right of way, there is no path as such, so it was a yomp up a very steep slope through 2 foot thick, very springy vegetation, but the reward on reaching the top of the Rhigos Pass was well worth the effort. The path then follows the road partly and sometimes parallel off-road paths down into the Rhondda Fawr valley and down into Treherbert....
