Help connect Inverurie

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Inverurie’s Slow Ways.

After leaving the train station continue on the main road through Inverurie, and take the Keithhall turnoff. Most of the cars take the Keithall B993 so once you turn off at the junction marked Balbithan, the road changes to single track and there is very little traffic. Continue on the road past Kinkell churchyard, and through the yard of Ardmurdo farm. One of the fields either side would have to be used before picking up the farm track on the Balbithan side1 Another option would be to continue on the B road that passes in between Heatherwick and Hogholm, rejoining the original route at East Balbithan (this route is popular with local cyclists.) I walked back to Inverurie this way and it was quite pleasant with very few cars. This option would also have a few burns to cross and this route is not currently used by local walkers....

The local community have gone to a lot of effort to establish this way marked trail over the hill (With support from the local farmers.). On top of hill of Barra The remains of the ancient hill fort can still be identified Set off again, aiming down hill for the stiles (recognisable from the distance by looking for the blue insulation on the top of the electric fences.)...
