Help connect Eton
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Eton’s Slow Ways.

A Slow Way which passes the playing fields of Eton, the rivers Thames and Jubilee, and Datchet green spaces on the way to Horton. Pococks Lane has the Eton playing fields opposite (Photo 2)....

An excellent Slow Way that avoids the main roads out of Maidenhead; to join the Thames Path at Bray, and follows it almost all the way into Eton....

After the golf course there's a busy road to cross in Datchet....

It was a lovely day and plenty of people out to enjoy the views. An interesting route. I started from Riverside Station....

Windsor Road into Datchet had pavement parkers (photo #6). The route has you leaving Horton Road go to through the park and a little nature reserve (photo #8)....

I really started at where Windsor Road meets the Jubilee River (photo #1), where after a while I crossed the bridge (photo #2) over it and through the school's playing ground until Pococks Lane (photo #3), where I turned east to follow Etohor two....
Derick Rethans
The route leaves the main road for a pleasant walk past playing fields to reach the Jubilee River....

The bridge (Michaels bridge) has a slight step up for buggies or wheelchairs but other than that a great route...
Manjit Birk
Lovely walk with things to see and grab a coffee at the start and end which is a bonus...
Nisha Bilkhu
Unlit so would only recommend in daylight and the Eton playing fields path can get extremely muddy and potentially is unsuitable for buggy’s and wheelchairs where it would be advisable to stick to the Slough Road...
Helen Acland
This would be quite hard work with a wheelchair but there are lovely views along the river from the top. The route then follows the path along the river, which is a lovely stretch of the walk....

Going through Braywick Park, you share part of the route with the Maidenhead ParkRun, and it can get muddy in parts after some rains. This is a beautiful part of the route where you pass Bray Marina, Oakley Court and Windsor Marina (all on your right), while Dorney Lake is on your left. Some of us have used this path for cycling before and it can get very muddy after some rainfall, and otherwise as well not suitable for wheelchairs, as it is a rugged path. Many people use this for walking this dogs, running & cycling, so it can get busy at times.! 1) Take a toilet break at the Braywick Leisure Centre (get off the track for a bit from Braywick Park) as there are no other real places you could use toilets along the way after this. As most of the route is busy, finding a spot in the bushes will not be easy!...

After leaving the river, there is a rather uninspiring urban-walk over the Thames bridge and through Maidenhead to the High Street....
Martin Ellis
A neat connecting walk over the Thames (Photo 1) and past Windsor Castle. There is no shortage of benches along the way....
Martin Ellis
I enjoyed this Slow Way; you might look at the route and think ‘what is that bulge for, why not just go straight along the road?’, but the bulgy bit along the Jubilee River and across the famous ‘playing fields of Eton’ is lovely and tranquil....

I really enjoyed walking this route between Maidenhead and Eton. The dog leg coming out of Braywick Park onto Hibbert Road is to avoid walking a blind corner, coming from Eton direction it may seem uneccesary. A bit further on the the route turns onto fields and heads directly to Eton....

The first part of the route between Horton and Datchet is the same as Winhor Two. After Datchet the route turns off the road and goes alongside a golf course, crosses the Jubilee River, and approaches Eton through the college playing fields, alongside the renowned Eton Wall. If I had to choose between Etohor Two and Winhor Two I would pick this one because I found the section between Datchet and Eton more interesting than the section between Datchet and Windsor...

Jane Taylor added Etohor two, a new walk from Eton to Horton (Windsor and Maidenhead)
Walk this routeI walked along Eton High Street, enjoyed a well-kept pint of the local beer at the excellent George Inn, then across the Thames on a footbridge, and up the (fairly steep) hill past the Theatre Royal (Cherry Orchard) to finish opposite Windsor Castle, outside the Central Station (service to Slough). 4 stars, not the route's fault, too many cars in Windsor for perfection, but close!...
Jane Taylor
By the time I got to the bridge I was already reaching for my inhaler, and there's more to come before getting to the Jubilee River and the start of off-road walking. Compared with walking along the Thames path I found the Jubilee a little dull....
Jane Taylor
The detour across fields and along the river will be nice in the daytime, but dark and unlit at night, when you'd be best to stick to Slough Road I think....

And the roads have footpaths and traffic should be slow (20-30mph limits). Ascent/Descent figures look incorrect. Eton->Windsor has a significant hill climb up to the Castle....

This route could be fixed without too much effort, but in my view it would be better to fully follow the Thames (MaiWin) or instead follow the Jubilee river....
SofaJockey
The route diverts to walk off-road alongside playing fields (it is Eton) and along the Jubilee River, though the final section up the hill into Slough along a main road is pretty much what it is and can't really be improved....
SofaJockey
This must count as one of the shortest Slow Ways and one where the route is inevitable, along Eton High Street, over the Thames and up the hill into Windsor. Eton and Windsor are both lovely as is the Thames....
