Help connect Slough
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Slough’s Slow Ways.

These pass Dorney Lake, the historic Dorney Court, and St James the Less Church (Photo 3). A footpath from Dorney joins the Jubilee River Way....

Agree with last review this 9km walk on pavements beside the busy A4, not suitable as a Slow Way!...

I really started at where Windsor Road meets the Jubilee River (photo #1), where after a while I crossed the bridge (photo #2) over it and through the school's playing ground until Pococks Lane (photo #3), where I turned east to follow Etohor two....
Derick Rethans
You leave Maidenhead (photo #1) soon behind, with a pleasant section through the Braywick Nature Reserve (photo #2)....

The Horton Road is unpleasant but unavoidable, this route takes you off it at the earliest opportunity across Datchet Common into Datchet itself. Just past Datchet the path leads onto the golf course. This was easy to walk around on the adjacent Windsor Road and entering the course about 450m further on....
Strider
A beautiful walk with mostly good path, great views, and plenty of opportunity to spy red kites soaring in the air....
Ingrina
A little road walking through Bray then more wooded paths toward the Jubilee River. I have done Maislo2 also which has more riverside walking but also more road on the approach to Maidenhead and no stop in Dorney...
Strider
A Slow Way following the course of the artificial Jubilee River, albeit bookended by urban walks....
Martin Ellis
The route leaves the main road for a pleasant walk past playing fields to reach the Jubilee River....

From Slough Station the B416 takes you past shops and suburban housing, its a busy road and the pavement becomes narrower and closer to the traffic as you go out of the town. after 2km the route turns left through a narrow gate and along a narrow path. More paths across quiet farmland and the busy road is soon forgotten....
Strider
I was surprised to see several baseball diamonds, until I discovered that Farnham Park is the national baseball and softball centre....
Martin McGovern
The bridge (Michaels bridge) has a slight step up for buggies or wheelchairs but other than that a great route...
Manjit Birk
Lovely walk with things to see and grab a coffee at the start and end which is a bonus...
Nisha Bilkhu
Unlit so would only recommend in daylight and the Eton playing fields path can get extremely muddy and potentially is unsuitable for buggy’s and wheelchairs where it would be advisable to stick to the Slough Road...
Helen Acland
The towpath wasn't too muddy, nor were the short field sections between the canal and Iver itself....
Martin McGovern
As the previous reviewer said, the Slough section is rather mundane running along the back lanes, but at least it’s away from the main road. The walk to and from Beaconsfield is roughly 1.5 hours and predominantly off road with the exception of a short element at the top of Burnham Beeches, which needs to be handled with a little care during the school run or rush hour....
Phil Dolphin
Down a busy main road from Slough station (although you could follow the cycle path signs down quieter streets and still end up on the Jubilee Rive Way) to the cycle path alongside the Jubilee river. At the Slough end glimpses of the river are rare through the dense riverside hedging, but the compacted gravel path is generally easy going, and even after recent torrential rain there was little mud and the puddles were shallow, this path is good for wheels, flat without gradients, but not always smooth....
Strider
Leaving the canal close to Iver the path crosses fields before a short section of busy road that cuts Iver in two....
Strider
The middle section is lovely, but coming out of Gerrards Cross and coming into Slough are dreadful walking along roads with fast moving cars. I've created Sloger Two which fixes the Gerrards Cross traffic section with something much nicer, similar to what Gerive one does....
Derick Rethans
I walked this from Gerrards Cross to Slough on a warm summer morning, except for the section out of Gerrards Cross, which I walked on the same day but coming back from Iver (avoiding the busy road section in Gerrards Cross from Sloger one). At the end of that, you need to cross a busy road, followed by a fairly long slog along a busy road with a narrow path right next to a big wall, to get you into Slough....
Derick Rethans
Derick Rethans added Sloger two, a new walk from Slough to Gerrards Cross
Walk this routeThis route starts at Slough, which isn't known for it's architecture. Luckily, most of this route is along the Slough Arm of the Grand Union Canal, which was a really pleasant walk, albeit it very straight for about 80% of the route....
Derick Rethans
Derick Rethans added Beaslo two, a new walk from Beaconsfield to Slough
Walk this routeFor most of the walk along this road, there is a footpath separated from the road by (many) trees. After crossing Beaconsfield road, there is a little bit more lane walking before you need to find a footpath that gets you out onto Farnham Park....
Derick Rethans
The walk out of Slough is pretty dreadful, with a busy road....
Derick Rethans
The first is when you turn off Harehatch Lane and are meant to turn right, but that gate is locked with no way through, and appears to be private....

As a leisure route the Slough to Datchet part works well, and there’s good links to Eton and Windsor by this routing too. I have also enjoyed walking Slough to Sunnymeads (and vv) using this route, including the path across Datchet Common, as far as the footpath which turns off the Horton Road towards the railway just past the pumping station....
Jane Taylor
Strangely the route doesn't start/end at the Maidenhead Railway station but the station is only 1km away from the start which is outside the beautiful Maidenhead library....
Slow Ways Darren
Jane Taylor added Slohor two, a new walk from Slough to Horton (Windsor and Maidenhead)
Walk this routeI enjoyed this Slow Way; you might look at the route and think ‘what is that bulge for, why not just go straight along the road?’, but the bulgy bit along the Jubilee River and across the famous ‘playing fields of Eton’ is lovely and tranquil....
Jane Taylor
I planned to walk this route, which is all good apart from an access problem at Slough station. There is no access to cross the railway lines (unless with a ticket to travel). I made a different start to the route which goes directly to the canal towpath, and have added to the network as SlouIve Two....
Jane Taylor
In this case the Slough arm of the Grand Union canal will deliver you from Slough to Iver along a peaceful green corridor, with only minor irritation at either end from the car frantic outside world. A short walk away from Slough station (some of the minor irritation) is the start/end of the Slough canal....
Jane Taylor
The next section passes the rowing centre at Dorney, which was a venue in the 2012 Olympic Games. Highly recommend this route if you want a quiet entry to/exit from Maidenhead....
Jane Taylor
Jane Taylor added Maislo three, a new walk from Maidenhead to Slough
Walk this routeEasy to follow and easy walking along the Jubilee River. Inevitably quite a lot of town walking at either end. It was a national cycle route so the path was accessible....
Phil Edwards
It’s still straightforward to follow and you’re almost always in sight of water, so it really was quite pleasant and lovely walking....
mtormey
Slough centre is just a short walk from the train station, but you can’t walk through the station building to get there, you have to go around....
mtormey
Good route along the Jubilee River. Some town walking which cannot be avoided....
se71
The detour across fields and along the river will be nice in the daytime, but dark and unlit at night, when you'd be best to stick to Slough Road I think....
se71
It is a fair bit of walking though, so my recommendation would be start early....
mustardandmargarita
The route diverts to walk off-road alongside playing fields (it is Eton) and along the Jubilee River, though the final section up the hill into Slough along a main road is pretty much what it is and can't really be improved....
SofaJockey
I've given 'yes' verification because the route isn't broken (it works) but it's hardly what Slow Ways is all about and adds nothing to what Google Maps would serve up to drive from Maidenhead to Slough....
SofaJockey
It's a modern river (1990's) so it's not a mature walk by any means, but it's a nice alternative to the main road through Slough Trading Estate. The path under the motorway could be flooded when the river is at a high level....
