Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

20 Feb 2024This route is has a very dangerous road crossing - with steep access banks and a 70mph dual carriageway to cross. Not recommended.

21 Feb 2022From Woodbridge to Ufford this is a very good route, however the crossing of the A12 is very dangerous. I walked from Woodbridge and the ascent to the road crossing is by steep, poorly maintained steps. There is limited space on the side of the road to wait for a gap in the fast moving traffic. At the central reservation you must pass between the barriers and on the far side the footpath marker post has been knocked over obstructing access to the steep, slippery slope down. There is no clear l’y marked route through the industrial nursery and the second stile is broken. Not recommended for groups of walkers or anyone with mobility limitations.

29 Aug 2021Most of this route was very pleasant, along the River Deben, through villages and farmland. But there was one section, between Ufford and Pettistree (I walked it from Woodbridge) that has some problems. Firstly there was a section along a field edge where it wasn't obvious that there was a footpath at all and the footpath signs were mostly obscured. Then came crossing the A12 dual carriageway, which is not for the fainthearted and definitely not for those with limited mobility (the bank getting up onto the A12 was pretty steep too). I felt uncomfortable walking through the middle of an industrial plant nursery. It is marked on the map as a path but there were no signs marking it. To exit the nursery there was a broken stile that I had trouble getting over with my dog. There are other, slightly longer, routes between Woodbridge and Wickham Market that avoid these problems. I'll try to add one at some point.

04 May 2021Pleasant, varied and interesting walk, easy to follow, refreshment points at Woodbridge, Ufford and Wickham Market
BUT the suggested crossing point on the A12 is very dangerous due to fast moving heavy traffic .There is no pedestrian crossing. Much better to cross A12 on bridge at Loudham Hall Rd, GR 306 545 roughly 0.5m further on.
Suggest a better route from Ufford to A12 is to follow
footpath from GR 301 526 to 312 545 which skirts Loudham Park and takes you to Loudham Hall Rd which safely crosses A12 by a small road bridge.
