Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

06 Jan 2024 (edited 12 Jan 2024)I completed this walk travelling east from Wolverhampton today. I really enjoyed the walk as it had several very different sections to it. First the canal, then pavement walking through the 'burbs , then through the fields at Moseley Village (which was not quite what I was expecting), then zigzagging through a housing estate, then through the lovely Willenhall Memorial Park before finally zigzagging again through the retail units and shops and into Willenhall. Pretty confident it could be wheeled as there were no stiles or gates and I don't think there were any steps either. Recommended!.

02 Jan 2023Safe, direct route that is remarkably offroad. Winds its way through Willenhall town centre before reaching the paths and wooden statues of Memorial Park. A residential street takes you to the slightly tricky crossing of Neachells Lane. The greenspace beyond, of Moseley Village (it's maybe too wild to describe as a park) might get muddy at times. Having crossed the railway, the footpath takes you into another residential set of streets which becomes the main Deans Road where you can find a row shops and eateries (this is half way in to the walk). I found it best to take the south side to access the towpath (the road can not be crossed there) although it is not game over on the north side, it's just a slight scramble. The towpath of the Wyrley and Essington canal is wide and paved and takes you all the way to the Birmingham Canal. The route from there to the meeting place seems slightly convoluted, but is necessary. I enjoyed this route, particularly Memorial Park. Strange moments of the day I walked it were as I walked down the Wylrey and Essington Canal. At particular moments when the wind blew in exactly the right direction I could hear the sounds of the crowd at Molineux (Wolves were at home to Manchester United in a New Years Eve Clash). Could it be more direct? Is the Moseley Village greenspace too wild for some tastes? Maybe, but I think that overall this is a well balanced Slow Way.
