Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

This had all the hallmarks of a 5 star route until about 300m to go. It's a walk I've done, not as a slow way, many times and I didn't remember the route from canal to station being quite so simple in Wolverhampton. The answer is, it's not. There is no route where it is marked between the canal and the station. You have to continue and make your way round via the main road. "This Slow Way's bost mate! Y' cor mek it from the cut to the station so easy. Ye gorra goo round the wrekin!".

It's hard to believe nobody has reviewed this route before!! We walked from Coseley to Wolverhampton, the path mostly being along the canal towpath. The route is not quite as straight as some of the other stretches of this canal, as it follows the contour line presumably to avoid the need for locks. The scenery is often surprisingly tranquil for such an urban setting, but on the approach to Wolverhampton there are many signs of the area's industrial heritage, with abandoned factories clearly visible. We saw plenty of wildlife, including several herons. We made a small detour for refreshments at the Elisabeth Arms, otherwise completed the route as planned. I'd definitely recommend it.
