I walked this route yesterday travelling eastwards from Willenhall. A great route which benefits hugely from the excellent Robin Hood free house pub, and a good section of quiet canal towpath walking. As previously mentioned, there are shallow steps down to the canal but apart from that would be step free and accessible to most. Can certainly be recommended.

Another cracking Slow Way, pavements and a good dose of excellent canal towpath ending at Walsall basin and a walk along the main shopping street.

I continued my tour of four Slow Ways from Willenhall and was eager to get onto the canal instead of street walking, the approach is fine with pavements, safe road crossing and made even better by the surprise of the Black Country Ale House, no I hadn't read David's review.

It was steps down to the towpath which was a shame because the path surface is first class, bonded and on the whole little used. The water is crystal clear again due to the absence of boats either moored or moving. It was a peaceful haven even the Heron appeared unconcerned about my approach waiting to the very last second to fly on. The heady scent of the buddleia was starting to fade and lilies floated on the undisturbed water.

The industry that the canal served and promoted is still there but has long since turned to other means of transport. The narrow green border, often just rouge growth, softens the dingy backs of factories making this a most enjoyable off road route.

Approaching Walsall and it's Waterside Quarter which makes the claim but not the effort we pass deserted moorings (picture of moored boat is from stock 2014) which in London or Birmingham would be much in demand. The High Street was thronged and the meeting place would offer a challenge to meet a new friend who may have arrived by train to the well disguised station.

We walked this route from Walsall to Willenhall. It is easy to follow with the first section along the canal and then afterwards through residential, light industrial until entering Willenhall. The town is very friendly and has a slightly old world feel to it. There are plant of places to get food and drink. A good sloways route.

A thoroughly enjoyable walk along the Walsall Canal is the majority of this route. I started from Walsall and was impressed by how easy the route is to follow. Leaving the canal near Willenhall the pavement of the main "Crescent" road is less enjoyable but you are soon rewarded with stops and shops including a Black Country Ales pub and a McDonalds. The route then snakes its way through residential streets to the meeting point in Willenhall. Direct, well served, safe and in some sections very enjoyable. I give this route full marks.
