Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

13 Sep 2023A nice route, with very little roadwalking once beyond West Malling. Lots of fruit orchards, not just the Research Farm, so it'll be a nice walk for spring blossom.
Not much to add to the description in the previous review except that there is a tearoom (Tue-Sat to 2.30) and pub to stop at midway in East Malling. West Malling has a good size high street but Ditton is just a convenience store, a takeaway and a couple of other shops in a very short parade.
The route line is a bit vague as you come into Ditton, which is unfortunate because it goes through the type of newish development with lots of small, curved roads and cul-de-sacs where one (ok, me) can get easily turned around. It's not serious but I was then in quite a rush to make the next train from Aylesford station.
If you are starting from West Malling station you could leapfrog the first mile to intercept the route in the south-eastern corner of Manor Park. There's a path (not shown on OS maps) running close to the eastern side, and the northern gate on Lavenders Road is (sort of) on the OS maps near the Water Lane junction.

12 Aug 2023This is an enjoyable route on mostly country footpaths. It is not suitable for wheelchair users, and possibly mobility scooters, due to six barriers (see pictures).
The start point would be better from the junction of Station Road and the A20 OS (Grid Ref: TQ 71279 58385) where there are buses; it is 0.6 miles further on (Northeast) to the Station.
The route leaves Ditton and passes through the research station followed by a short section through the pretty East Malling village before taking unmade paths through the countryside. Outside West Malling, you walk through part of Manor Park country park (toilets and café here). The Grade II* Listed Building named Douces Manor on the main road, was occupied by the local RAF during the second world war.
The station is down Swan Street and a further 0.45 miles from the end of this route.
