Description
This route is designed to use as much as possible of the most direct surfaced track through Colwick Country Park. It also uses a new section of riverside path between Trent Lane and the country park, a short section of which is on gravel. Unfortunately there is no way to connect this to Lady Bay Bridge without walking on pavements alongside an industrial estate. If the proposed new Trent footbridge gets built it will enable a shorter and greener alternative. There are flights of steps either side of the railway bridge - these have grooves for wheeling cycles but are not suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters or pushchairs unless they can be carried up and down the steps. Most of the route can be made accessible by using more pavements at the Carlton end

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

19 Jun 2024Walked from West Bridgford to Carlton. An easy and pleasant route apart from the unavoidable pavement walking east of Lady Bay bridge. This is much more relaxing that the long main road pavement used by the slightly shorter WesCar one.
From the bus stop opposite the CoOp in West Bridgford we head north west a few meters then turn right along the fenced footpath through the parks. We turn left onto Edward Road, then use pelican crossings to cross Radcliffe Road and continue over Lady Bay Bridge. We cross right at the junction with Meadow Lane and follow the pavements round to the second roundabout and turn right onto Trent Lane, following it out to the river.
The path between the new buildings and the river is not signposted, just follow the gravel path until it becomes a paved path, then continue to the junction where we turn right. The first path right into the country park has been surfaced in the last few years, and is now a good wide track, as are all of the popular paths we follow through the country park, where there are plenty of benches and a few picnic tables. I chose the most direct line, but there are plenty of alternative routes. Eventually we reach the car park access road, which is safe enough to walk on but there are rougher and potentially muddy alternatives to the right.
We turn left at Mile End Road, use pelican crossings to cross the A612 then turn right onto the imaginatively name First Avenue. The second alleyway to the left takes us past a primary school to the footbridge over the railway, which we cross then continue on the surfaced path alongside the railway to Midland Road and the Carlton meeting point by the station.
